PEN TESTING

Filled it this morning, after cleaning even more cruft from inside the barrel. Section is in place in the barrel and holding without glue, which is preferred.Fairly bold nib, somewhat flexible. So far, so good. But I am storing it vertically, nib up, just in case.

(Still working to get my Palmer Method cursive up to spec -- and then it's on to Spencerian! BTW, the radiogram form is a reproduction).

  1. Roberta,

This and the previous post are excellent information. I have a number of vintage fountain pens that I have never taken time to see if they function. I now plan to re-examine them and bring them back to life. Thanks!

  2. Whoops! Saw the title and thought you were going to do a network penetration test! Nice pen!

  3. In my lockbox is a Parker pen and pencil I inherited from my Mother. She was an elementary teacher and principal and gave me the pens when I entered college.

They are a matched pair, grey with the famous Parker white dot on the clip. The pen is a snorkel and still works as it did when my mother used it to grade papers.

  4. I'm too practical for one of them old-timey designs with leaky bladders and such. So I carry a Lamy Safari with the broad nib loaded with a darker-than-normal turquoise Noodlers Ink. Haven't ruined a shirt yet!

  5. Where do you find guidelines for learning Palmer & Spencerian?

  6. Weetabix: Amazon.com sells books (including workbooks), but you might start at the website of IAMPETH, the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of handwriting. They have free lessons!

    Zanerian.com is interesting, too.

  7. Great. Now you've got me hooked on fountain pens. Just what I need: another addiction.

  9. Joseph, it's pretty unique -- I had some printed (photo-offset, ink colr-mathced by hand) after a friend sent me a note on an old original.

I'm saving up for a high-rez scanner; once I get it, I'll post some scans. Somehwere I have a B/W version of a standard (day rate) Radiomarine radiogram form. Original ink color for that was a deep maroon.
